DIY: Feng Shui Placement
Kemi Ogunji
As family dinners, the common cold and part-time jobs compete for your energy this November, Feng Shui offers a remedy. An ancient Chinese practice, Feng Shui harmonizes the objects in your environment to invite fresh energy and clarity into your life.
The bagua, a Feng Shui energy map, contains nine representative energy centers that activate change through symbols. Bagua enhancements are optimized in clutter-free zones, so sort through old CDs, books and clothing. Commit to selling or donating items you do not use.
With a pencil, divide a sheet of paper into nine equal sections. Write the name of the corresponding energy center in each block for the front, middle and back rows, starting from left to right. Align the front row with the wall of your door to determine where to place each enhancement. Choose two sections you want to improve and add a lamp or healthy plant. Now, add a few designated enhancements and watch your dreams manifest!
The bagua, as extracted from Jayme Barrett’s “Feng Shui Your Life”:

Knowledge: books, images of mountains or wise people
Career: career symbols, images of a river or calm ocean
Helpful people: box of your requests, artwork of role models, spiritual symbols
MIDDLE
Family: wooden objects, photos of family/friends, heirlooms or mementos
Health: fresh flowers, shells or ceramic items, symbols of peace
Creativity: art supplies, musical instruments, metal objects
BACK
Wealth: fake gold coins, valuable antiques or artwork
Fame: red candles, images of the sun, television or radio
Relationships: velvet pillows, paired objects, images of romantic scenes
